Class Structure for September

8 July 2020 (by admin)

Dear Parents

As already communicated with you last week, the Government have issued their plan for schools returning in September.

There is a huge responsibility placed on Schools to make decisions which balance the Health, Safety and Well-being of the children and the educational impact of a full and balanced curriculum.

The Governing Body are meeting next week to look at the issues and to plan accordingly.  I would like to gain the views of our parents in this consultation to enable all stakeholders to be considered in the process.

Our options for Reception, Year One and Year Two are:

Option 1:

AM

PM

Reception (18)

Reception/Y1  (26)

Year 1  (14)

Year 2 (20)

Year 1/2  (26)

This would be the same set up as the current class structure.  The children will be taught in their individual year groups for Phonics, English and Maths in the morning and for one afternoon of science.  For the other 4 afternoons, we would have two mixed classes and the Y1 class would be split.  The children would be distanced as much as we can e.g. in the mixed classes - the year groups would not be sat together, line up separately etc..

Pros

Cons

Maths and English taught in Year Groups

Smaller Groups for Maths and English

More flexibility for teaching staff and support staff

Potential cross-contamination of a larger group of children

Potential for all 52 children to be sent home in the case of a positive test – this is decided on an individual risk basis and would not always be the case

 Option 2:

Reception/Year 1 Class (26)

Year 1/Year 2 Class (26)

This would be a split of the Y1 class and the children would be taught in mixed classes all day, every day and two separate bubbles.

Pros

Cons

Contamination limited to 26 due to smaller bubbles

Positive impact on budget

Teachers would not be able to teach English and Maths separate

Reception (EYFS) Curriculum is different to Y1 so more difficult to implement

Teaching group sizes bigger

I would appreciate as many replies as possible, through the survey below.  If your require any clarification or have any questions, please email on headteacher@frizington-pri.cubria.sch.uk

Please return by Midday Tuesday 14th July.

Thank you
